NL-Lu BPL 2777

Choir book for the Divine Office, 1562, ordered by the church masters of Oegstgeest parish church and written by the chaplain of Marienpoel near Leiden. Hufnagelschrift (in the polyphonic songs intermingled with mensural elements). It was meant for use by a soloist, as it contains mainly soloist parts of the chants (e.g. in case of a responsory only the verse and not the respons).

Christmas chants, incl. the troped resp. Descendit and Verbum caro, a 2-part versicle Verbum caro factum est alleluia and the two-part Christmas songs: Dies est leticie nam processit hodie, Dies est leticie in ortu regali, Puer nobis nascitur and Puer natus in bethleem.

Maria Purificatio: fol. 31 contains the prosa Inviolata and the ant. Responsum, with indications for alternatim practice.

Among the processions chants for Palm Sunday is the verse Unus autem ex illis from antiphon Collegerunt (fol. 42v). This verse has the rubric Unus puer cantet to the phrase Expedit vobis. The antiphon Ave rex noster (fol. 45v) has the rubric Ter sacerdos incipiet antiphonam sequentem qualibet vice magis elevando vocem.

From fols 49v onwards the lamentations of Holy Week are written out fully.

Fol. 71v: Benedicamus-formulas, among which the trope Benedicamus in laude ihesu qui sue matre marie ....

Fol. 71v: Primum querite regnum dei (small tonary with the psalm tones).
