Utrecht: Universiteitsbibliotheek (NL-Uu)

The Utrecht University Library grew out of the municipal library (Stadsbibliotheek) that came into existence through the confiscation of the books of the chapters during the Reformation. Obviously the canons were not very willing to hand over their books, and many of the books of the chapters reached the University Library only in the mid 19th century, years after the closing down of the Utrecht chapters in 1811.

Literature

The history of the library is described in: Grosheide e.a.: Vier eeuwen Universiteitsbibliotheek Utrecht, deel 1 (Utrecht 1986).

The manuscripts of this library are described in the catalogue of Tiele.

Many of the manuscripts are briefly described and depictured in K. van der Horst: Illuminated and Decorated Medieval Manuscripts ...

See also: Handschriften en Oude Drukken van de Utrechtse Universiteitsbibliotheek.

Of most of the liturgical manuscripts a more extant codicological description is made by students under supervision of G. Gerritsen-Geywitz and K. Vellekoop. These can be consulted in the Manuscript Room of the University Library.
