's Hertogenbosch: Mariënwater

Birgittin monastery (for both men and women) Mariënwater or Koudewater (Maria ad Aquas Frigidas), in Rosmalen near 's Hertogenbosch.

Due to the religious troubles the male branche disappeared since ca 1650. The nuns remained in Mariënwater up till 1713; then they had to leave Mariënwater and move to the Abdij Maria Refugie in Uden; this is at present the only birgittine monastery left in the Netherlands.
