Sulpitius II Pius of Bourges |
Sulpitius II Pius of Bourges (Sulpitius de Vrome; Supplitius). Died 647 in Bourges; bishop of Bourges from 624 onwards.
Feast: 17 January.
Diest, Sulpitiuskerk |
Parts of his office are preserved in some Tongerlo fragments: AAT II 121 (fly leaf) and AAT II 379 (cover), belonging to a 15th-16th century antiphoner.
In France some chants for Sulpicius are preserved in the antiphoner F-Pm 386,
borrowed from an office that seems a pastiche. At present it is not clear
if these chants and those from Diest are taken from the same office:
[Ad primas vesperas ad Magn. ant.] Magna vox laude sonora te decet per omnia quo
poli chorea gaudet acta tali compare terra plaudat et resultat digna tanta presule o sacer
sulpici confessor nostra vota suscipe (2nd mode) (text and melody are from an antiphon
for Lambertus, LMLO LA-31)
[Ad secunda vesperas ant.] Sacra recensentes sollemnia egregii presulis et
confessoris sulpicii cernua dominum devocione laudemus qui nobis eximia largiri
dignatus est patricinia (4th mode; ps. Dixit dominus)
[Ad secundas vesperas ad Magn. ant.] Confessor xpisti sulpicius hodie exultat
in celis et laudatur in terris nos ubique exoramus devotissime ut ad convivia ubi
epulatur epulemur tu domine da nobis eius consortium in sempiternum (1st mode)
A Mass (no proper chants) is in B-TONGLna V 326.

Sulpitius is not mentioned in LMLO.
