Confraternities and guilds

Among the many confraternities and guilds some have left us liturgical books.

Confraternities

The Illustre Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap, connected with St. Jan in 's Hertogenbosch has left us some manuscripts.

Some of the books ascribed to Walburgiskerk in Zutphen may have belonged to the Walburgis-Broederschap or the Justus- & Ewald-Broederschap of this church: NL-ZUa 2 and 6, as these manuscripts do not contain a full liturgy but a limited number of Mass and Office chants, as was practiced by confraternities.

Guilds

NL-Nv C. I A 2, missal of the Bakery guild, Stevenskerk in Nijmegen.

NL-Hs 184 C 2, 'Linnenweversmissaal', Bavokerk in Haarlem.

Literature

J.E.A.L. Struick: De weg naar de hemelpoort ... and L.P.W. de Graaff: De broederschappen op het platteland ..., both in: De Kerk en de Nederlanden (1997).
