Died ca 774; founder of an abbey in Lier.

Patron saint of the Gummaruskerk in Lier.
In 754 his relics were transferred to the place where later the Gummaruskerk of Lier was built. In the 13th century a chapel (Sint-Gummaruskapel or Kluizekerk) was built on the place of the miracle with the tree. In Emblem (near Lier) a parish was founded by the Gummaruskerk of Lier. A chapel was built on the place where miraculously a well originated.
A Gummarus parish existed in Herenthout, since 1405 served by the Gummaruskerk of Lier.
In or near Enkhuizen was a Gummarus parish since the early 13th century.
Post-medieval patrocinia: the Gummarus parish in Mechelen dates from 1924, in Wagenberg from 1796. In Duffel a chapel was built in 1688 as a memorial of the meeting of Rumoldus and Gummarus. His patrocinium of the parish church of Steenbergen is as young as the late 17th century.
Parts of an office (first vespers, lauds and second vespers; AH 52, nr 388) and a hymn (Iste confessor domini sarcatus (!) / vere athleta fide laureatus / Gummarus almus ...; AH 52, nr 216) for Gummarus are known from a breviary-diurnale from a private collection. The present place or call number of this manuscript is not known; neither is a music source known.
An alleluia Ihesu predulcis precibus and a sequence (texts only) are in B-LVap 20, added by a 15th century scribe: In excelso triumphanti / de triumpho glorianti / consonemus agmini / carmen letum concrepanti / in gummari laudem tanti / confessoris domini etc. This sequence is not in AH.
