Justus |
Justus of Beauvais, martyr.
Feast: usually 18 October; in Zutphen (where relics of
Justus were preserved) 11 October.
Justus was an important saint in Zutphen since many centuries. Around the mid 15th century there was a renewed flourishing of his veneration; a confraternity for Ewald and Justus was founded. In the manuscripts of the Walburgiskerk in Zutphen a sequence, a hymn and an office are preserved, dating from about that time.
The sequence has the acrostichon 'Johannes Scouto', which may be the name of the text writer.
