Amandus |
Ca 594-675; missionary of northern France, Flanders, Haspengouw, etc.;
from 647-650 bishop of Maastricht. Founder of many
abbeys, among which the Pietersabdij in
Gent, and perhaps also the Baafsabdij.
Feast: 7 February (together with Vedastus: 6 February).
Legend says that he also founded a church in Antwerpen; later on this church was dedicated to Walburgis (Abteistadt Echternach, pp. 102-103).
Some chants (though not a complete office) are in F-AS 465.
