Wijk bij Duurstede: St. Janskerk

St. Johannes de Doperkerk, St. Janskerk or St. Jan Baptistkerk, founded as a parish church of Wijk bij Duurstede ca 1350 (?); chapter founded in 1366 by Heer Willem van Abcoude.

As a result of quarrels the Utrecht Bishop David van Bourgondië had to leave Utrecht in the second half of the 15th century. He lived in Wijk bij Duurstede for a while, and, hoping to give the church the standing of a dom, he tried to enlarge it.
