Pharaildis or Veerle died ca 750 in Gent. A legendary story says she is a daughter of Amalberga of Maubeuge and a sister of Gudula, but she is considered the daughter of king Theoderik as well. She was married off reluctantly, but remained virgin, during her marriage and afterwards when she had become a widow. Venerated in Gent.
