Gertrudis of Nivelles

Abbess and virgin, 626-659. She died young, this being the result of many austerities.
Feast: 17 March

She was venerated in the Low Countries, and her office is preserved in some Flemish manuscripts. It consists of a number of chants composed for Gertrudis, completed with others. It has some chants in common with the office for Walburgis.

Patrocinium

She was especially venerated in and around Bergen op Zoom (Woide, p. 121).

Chants

Her office (texts and music), as well as the hymns Ihesu flos matris virginis, and Veneremur solenniter auctorem pudicitie, are preserved in the Antiphoner winter parts of the Tongeren O.L.V-kerk, mss B-TO 63 and B-TO 64 (AH, t. 26, pp. 60-63). A 15th century breviarium diurnale B-Br 4655 of the Leuven Pieterskerk has the texts (without music). Lessons for her office (?) are in: NL-DHk 71 A 2, Lectionarium-Passionale, Servaaskerk, Maastricht, 15th century.

Fragment 25 of B-Br IV 627 bears part of the office.

In LMLO several offices for Gertrudis are mentioned: GF 52, 53, 54, 61 and 62.
