Bishop Fredericus of Utrecht

Bishop of Utrecht, and martyr, died 834. Feast: 18 July.

A hymn Hymnum canamus gratiae / Christo quia est rex gloriae / Et martyris victoriam / Ducamus ad memoriam for Fredericus is edited (text only) by Moll in Kerkgeschiedenis van Nederland voor de hervorming, deel 1 (1864), pp. 531-532. The hymn is taken from an Utrecht codex; no signature is mentioned.

A hymn for Stephanus protomartyr with the same incipit is found in the winter antiphoner, B-TO 63 of O-L-V.-kerk Tongeren, fol. 289v (Ymnum canamus gratie / cristo qui rex est glorie / et stephani martyrium / plebs recolat fidelium; see AH 23, p. 270, nr. 478). Both hymns probably were sung to the same melody.
