Converted nobleman, disciple of Amandus, who lived as a hermit in the neighbourhood of Gent, ca mid 7th century. His relics were kept in Baafsabdij in Gent; he was patron saint of St. Bavokerk in Haarlem.
The sequentia Tuum mundum toti bavo is in NL-Hs 184 C 1 (2nd line in Gent mss: sed praesertim sit Gandavo and in Haarlem mss: sed praesertim sit in Haarlem, the rhyme points towards an origin in Gent; see Utrecht Prosarium, pp. XLVIII-XLIX).
A mass for him is in NL-Hs 184 C 2.
A suffragium for him is in NL-Uc BMH 25 (fol. 85r).
An office for him is in the antiphoners of the Baafsabdij, Gent, composed by Remigius of Mettlach (Haggh, pp. 40-41; see on the office also B. Haggh in: De Sint-Baafskathedraal in Gent).
