Breda: Catharinadal

Premonstratensian women's convent. Its early history is unclear, but legend says that it was founded around 1250 by Lord Servatius van Liedekerke and his wife Ymezoete to create a convent for their 7 daughters. It was founded in Vroenhof near Wouw (near Roosendaal). In 1271 it joined the premonstratensian order, and in the same year it came under protection of the Lord of Breda. As in 1288 the buildings were damaged by a flood (Sint-Aagtensvloed), the nuns moved to Breda in 1295. In the 17th century Catharinadal moved to the castle De Blauwe Camer just outside Oosterhout.
