Nuenen: Soeterbeeck

Augustinian nuns. Founded 1448 in Nuenen, moved to Deursen-Ravenstein 1732. Kapittel of Venlo; the convents of this kapittel were strongly influenced by the Devotio Moderna.

Patrocinium: Annunciatio BMV (Codices additi, p. 25).

In course of time Soeterbeeck has been merged with other Augustinian women's convents. As a result the library contained manuscripts from several Augustinian convents (though manuscripts of these convents are preserved elsewhere as well). Many of these manuscripts cannot be ascribed to a specific convent.

Some of the names of these convents display a special veneration for the virgin Mary (Mariënhage or 'O.L.V. in die Haghe' in Helmond; Mariëndael, founded 1419 in Diest, moved to St. Oedenrode 1796), others for St Anna (St. Annatroon in Driel, founded before 1500; St. Annaborch in Rosmalen, founded 1515). Therefore it is not surprising to find a special sequence for St Anna (Gaude cunctis veneranda Anna mater et cantanda) in the books of this library (Jan Boogaarts: Een bijzondere sequentia ...).

In 1997 the convent was closed down. The buildings are now being used as Study center Soeterbeeck in Deursen-Ravenstein.

The manuscripts have been transferred to Nijmegen University Library (see Rijkdom in eenvoud).
