[&] author of original[&] in the 15th c., when the saint's cult was promoted, the abbey of Ss-Ulrich & Afra already had a historia and readings "in very ancient writing" [Acta Ss Oct. VI pp.242, 244, 276]. These may be the compositions of Adilbert, abbot of that monastery, 1230~47, who wrote a vita of Simpertus and according to one account a historia [see Andrew Hughes, NNOHM]. None of the sources of SI71 are earlier than the 15th c., so whether SI71 is Adilbert's office is not known.
